A 28-year-old taxi driver has been arrested as a search operation was launched to catch another driver for allegedly raping an underage girl in Mumbai.

By Dev Kotak: A 28-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Fort district in south Mumbai.
MRA Marg police have arrested the 28-year-old taxi driver, while another taxi driver is on the run. The police team traveled to Uttar Pradesh, where the taxi driver reportedly fled.
The accused arrested is Abhimanyu Hansraj Swaroj and has been taken into custody until November 29.
The victim, Rani, a student (name changed), also resides in Shraddhan and Mahilashram in Matunga.
Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Inspector, teams of Rajesh Pawar were formed to launch a manhunt for the two defendants.
The Investigating Officer, WAPI Swati Yele said, “On the night of October 22, she reached CSMT station and seeing her alone, the two accused taxi drivers started chatting with her and seeing her in a vulnerable state, they planned to exploit her and promised to help her find a job. Swaroj and the other defendants told her to come with them and they took her to a nearby lodge and raped the 15-year-old.
The role of the lodge is also under scanner to check if they have taken documents from taxi drivers when entering and CCTV footage is being scanned. The owner of the lodge will soon be questioned.
Swaroj was convicted under the articles of rape, gang rape, abduction and protection of children from sexual offences.
